In 2012, TOMA developed a solar program to provide energy for remote tribal health posts and schools in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Since then, we have installed and maintained more than 25 solar systems for villages of the Kogui, Wiwa, and Arhuaco tribes to power vaccine refrigerators, microscopes, dental compressors, nebulizers, and lights.
Additionally, we have trained Arhuaco solar technician Yarnel Villafañe in the maintenance of these systems, ensuring the skills and self-sufficiency for the tribal communities of the region to secure their own future.
