Commemorating TOMA's 30th year

APRIL 2026 TOMA Trip Report

Magdalena, Colombia

The purpose of TOMA Foundation’s April 2026 trip to the Sierra Nevada was to provide critical medical and solar support to communities impacted by recent violence in the region. Following paramilitary activity in March that caused casualties in Zanuriwa and Serankwa, the IPS Indigenous health organization requested TOMA’s assistance to help deliver aid and strengthen local healthcare infrastructure.

Our team arrived with the following objectives:

• Upgrade the existing solar installation in Dwanawimaku to improve reliability and energy access

• Install a solar system in Zanuriwa, one of the communities most affected by the recent conflict, to support vaccine refrigeration and medical services

• Upgrade the solar installation in Serankwa to strengthen power access for community and healthcare needs

Despite significant challenges with the team's health, logistics, and security, all original objectives were completed across the three villages.

A trusted partner

Because of years of trust and long-standing relationships with the communities of the Sierra Nevada, TOMA remains one of the few organizations IPS felt comfortable asking to enter and provide assistance so soon after the conflict. Your support directly allows critical aid to reach communities during times of urgent need.

As always, the people of the Sierra Nevada and TOMA Foundation thank you for your continued support.

With gratitude,

Randall Green
